John grew up in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, and has dedicated his past sixty-two years to daydreaming and the past five years to serious writing, which he believes are the same. From his teenage years, he has transformed his daydreams into poetry and prose. His passion for writing led him to earn a master’s degree in creative writing from Wilkes University in 2024, and he is currently pursuing his MFA in creative writing.
In 2023, he was awarded the Jennifer Diskin Memorial Scholarship in Poetry and won the Story in a Poem Contest in the unrhymed category at The Wunderbarn in Greenville, Pennsylvania, in the Fall of 2023. He recently participated in the Lackawanna County Art in the Park event this Summer, leading poetry and short story writing workshops.
His first one-act play, “The Garden,” adapted from an original vignette, was produced by Diva Theater in January 2024. His first collection of poems, “The Cobblestones I Know,” has been accepted for publication by Foothills Publishing and will be released in late Fall 2024.
John's talent has resonated within his community. His work has been published on local and state platforms such as Poets Live in Scranton and Moonstone Gallery from Philadelphia.
John's writing reflects life inspired by his upbringing in a small, blue-collared town in Northeast Pennsylvania. His work echoes through people from various ethnicities, capturing the universal themes of love, memory, and loss. He says, “My writing is an expression of life in a small town, about the memories and heartbreak and the passing of the same here in my Pennsylvanian hills.”
He currently resides with his two cats, Sylvia and Butch, and his Muse, Lorrie Loughney, in Dickson City, Pennsylvania.
